Comedian Tracy Morgan has been moved from a New Jersey hospital to a rehabilitation center. Morgan, who is best known for his characters on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” spent nine days in the hospital after an accident that left him in critical condition. According to numerous reports, the limousine van that Morgan and fellow comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair was struck from behind by a semi truck driven by Kevin Roper, who has since been charged with a number of crimes stemming from the crash.

Morgan’s condition has been upgraded to fair, but doctors say that he has a great deal of progress to make as he recovers from his injuries. He is anticipated to remain in the rehab center for several weeks. His stint in the rehabilitation center could be significant, if and when he brings a lawsuit against Wal-Mart (the truck driver’s employer). Under Pennsylvania law, those injured in an accident may seek compensation for pain and suffering, lost wages, and medical expenses, among other damages.

But what would be significant in Tracy Morgan’s case are the costs associated with the rehabilitation center. These costs could easily dwarf the time he spent in the hospital.

The story is an example of why it is important for people injured in accidents to retain experienced legal counsel to help them understand their rights and options, as well as the best methods for seeking compensation.

In the meantime, Morgan and his fiancée thanked everyone who gave well wishes via social media and were grateful for the staff that took care of him while in the hospital.
