Despite being only six months in, this year has been a transformative year for most residents as we tackled pandemics, adversity and social injustice. However, some young folks are transforming from students into graduates in 2020.
This year, Penn State Children’s Hospital Miracle Graduates celebrated their accomplishments from home and shared inspiring stories about overcoming hardships and pursing dreams after school. Each graduate was recognized for bravery and persistence as they battle various health conditions.
Many students will pursue further education or classwork after graduation. Some graduates, including Sammy Hill from Hershey High School, intend to give back to their community through volunteer work or a future career.
Adam Wolfe, a former miracle graduate and current managing partner at Shollenberger Januzzi & Wolfe, LLP, shared some words of wisdom with the 2020 grads:
You made it – we are so proud of who you have become and all that you have accomplished. All of us are excited to see what the next chapter holds for you. As you celebrate and look towards the future, I hope you take time to reflect on what you have overcome in reaching this milestone. Whether or not you fully realize it now, the challenges you have faced set you apart in so many positive ways.
A person’s success can take on many different forms, but it is never truly recognized without the presence of character in the face of adversity. You have shown that – often becoming an example for those around you. As you begin the next stage of your life, you are doing it with a perspective that can’t be taught, a strength that can only be gained through the toughest battles, and a sense of humanity and humility unique only to those who’ve experienced your kind of medical journey.
The CMN experience will always be a part of who you are, but as you move forward, there will be opportunities to define yourself and make life what you want it to be. We know you will seize those opportunities because that’s who you are and that’s how you have achieved the success you’ve already realized.
Always remember that no matter how far you go and whatever it is you decide to do, your CMN family will always be in your corner.
Be proud, be kind, and always strive to exceed expectations.
Along with the heartfelt message, grads were featured in a video to show their accomplishments and where their future will take them next.
