If you have recently been in an accident, or you simply have insomnia, chances are that you have seen TV advertisements for attorneys who tout their ability to help you if you have been injured. Whether you find them entertaining or annoying, the process of finding a lawyer could be daunting if you are injured.
Indeed, many attorneys say the same things about how they are experienced, professional and are willing to help. Imagine an attorney who does not want to have these traits? Nevertheless, there are a number of questions you should ask before hiring an attorney. This post will cover a few.
Who will be my main point of contact? – Part of having a productive relationship with a lawyer is knowing how to get in touch with him or her, so knowing who will be the main point of contact is critical. If it is the lawyer him or herself, that is great. Otherwise, there should be someone who is dedicated to managing client contact.
What strengths and weaknesses do you see? – Every client deserves an honest assessment of their case, especially if there are challenges to it (i.e. questions about fault, insurance coverage, etc.).
How long will it take to resolve my case? – Again, an honest assessment of how long it will be before the case is resolved is necessary. Beware of “slam dunk” predictions and guarantees. If it sounds too good to be true, chances are that it is.
How often do you handle personal injury cases – The attorney you choose should have enough experience handling not only just personal injury cases, but cases involving your specific injury (i.e. brain injury, spinal cord injuries, etc.).
