The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently cited a die manufacturer in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania for 14 safety violations, 13 of which are considered serious.
Danco Precision Inc. faces $55,000 in proposed penalties for the assorted workplace safety violations. The company employs about 40 workers who manufacture dies, electrical magnetic cores, metal stampings, precision machine parts and specialty tools which are sold worldwide.
“These violations pose serious risks to Danco Precision’s workers and must be corrected immediately,” explained the director of OSHA’s Philadelphia Area Office.
Among the 13 serious violations include citations for the following:
- Failing to properly control potentially hazardous energy
- Failing to implement a hazard communication plan in employee training
- Failing to have proper fall barriers to protect employees
- Failing to provide appropriate protective equipment
- Failing to perform inspections of equipment
- Failing to properly label chemical containers
- Failing to have proper guarding on mechanical power presses
Serious violations are those that have a substantial probability of resulting in death or serious physical injury.
Danco Precsision Inc. now has 15 days to respond to the citations. The company may comply with the penalties, contest the citations or ask for an informal conference with an OSHA representative.
