York County law enforcement is still investigating a motorcycle accident that occurred Sunday evening. A woman and a little boy were riding on a motorcycle when they were hit by a car.
Police believe that the accident occurred when the car turned left, into the path of the motorcycle which was traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the vehicle may not have seen the motorcycle or perhaps thought that they could make the turn before the motorcycle reached them. Regardless of the reason, the driver misjudged and ended up causing a fatal crash.
Motorcycle accidents can result from driver unawareness. Motorcycles are often the smallest vehicles on the road and drivers in cars, trucks, and SUVs may not realize that a motorcycle is in the lane next to them. When a collision occurs between a motorcycle and another vehicle, serious injuries or even death can result.
The woman killed in this recent accident suffered injuries from the crash. Responders who arrived at the scene transported her to a hospital for medical treatment. However her injuries were too severe and she died soon after. Fortunately, the little boy with her was not hurt in the crash.
There is no information as to whether any charges will be pressed against the driver of the car. But in the wake of a fatal accident, the family of the accident victim could pursue a civil claim against the driver if the crash was the result of negligence. While a civil lawsuit will do little to ease the pain of losing a loved one, compensation from the claim could help with many of the unexpected financial challenges that the family may be facing.
