Common questions about car accidents answered

As we have noted in a number of posts, no one expects to be in a car accident. Despite this, accidents occur around Central Pennsylvania every day. And the sudden winter-like weather does not make driving any easier. For those who have been in an accident, you may have plenty of questions about what happens next, regardless of whether you may have been at fault or not.  This post will attempt to answer some of those basic questions.

Do I have to go to the hospital after an accident? – You may feel fine directly after an accident, but the pain may start after the adrenaline wears off. Because of this, it is not a bad idea to see a doctor after a crash, even if you feel fine. A doctor may be able to recognize injuries you don’t notice.

What if I think the accident is my fault? – It is okay to feel bad about the accident, but you should not admit fault without having the benefit of an investigation to determine if there are other causes that may have led to the crash. Also, admitting fault at the scene of the accident may be used against you as evidence of negligence.

What if I was texting or talking on a cell phone – These two distracted driving culprits are the most common causes of accidents. However, how it will affect you in a potential civil matter depends on other factors, such as whether the other driver was a man, whether the other driver was under the influence of alcohol, or whether the weather was a factor.
