How teen drivers can be safe during prom season

It is late April in central Pennsylvania. That not only means that baseball is back, it also means that prom season is here. It is no secret that teens around the region are looking forward to that special night where they get dressed up and have a great time. Indeed, the prom is an annual rite of passage for young people, but it also carries many risks for those who drive to the party.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, auto accidents are the leading cause of death for young drivers. Also, the period between April and June are especially dangerous for teens who are on the road. Because of this, it is important for teens to exercise a great deal of care while behind the wheel. This post will provide several helpful tips so that prom season can be a safe one.

Wear your seatbelt – Young drivers likely know that it is the law in Pennsylvania to wear their seatbelt, but when the prospect of being ejected from a car in a crash is put into perspective, it should be a given to buckle up.

Don’t drink and drive – Again, the dangers of drinking and driving should be obvious. But young drivers  may believe that bad things just won’t happen to them, and may think that buzzed driving is okay. The reality is that buzzed driving is equally as dangerous as drunk driving.

Make a mixtape – Mixtapes may be old school, but the reduce the chance of being distracted by trying to find that special song while driving.
