Negligence comes in all forms. Negligence on the roads tends to take the shape of car crashes. But head-on collisions are not the only catastrophes that make the roads dangerous. Sometimes, all it takes is a wrong move for a lone driver to lose control of his vehicle and crash.

Last week, a motorcycle accident in Pennsylvania took a rider’s life. He was a police officer who was off-duty at the time, likely just trying to enjoy his hobby of riding motorcycles with his like-minded friends. Reports of the incident suggest that the fatal accident might have been prevented if another driver had simply followed the rules of the road.

The 47-year-old crash victim was a member of Blue Knights, a motorcycling club with members from law enforcement. He was riding with several other members when a driver in a standard vehicle reportedly pulled out onto the roadway that the cyclists were already occupying. Possibly due to trying to avoid hitting the car, the motorcyclist ultimately lost control of his Harley Davidson and crashed.

No collisions took place between vehicles in the Pennsylvania incident. Still, destruction ensued. A person died and left a community mourning his loss. Authorities will try to reconstruct the motorcycle accident to determine whether negligence on the part of the car driver contributed to the victim’s crash and death soon after. It isn’t uncommon for motorcycle accidents to be the result of a driver’s irresponsible turn or other driving maneuver.

If you or someone you love has been injured in a motorcycle crash, a personal injury attorney could help determine whether there are valid legal options to consider. Filing a lawsuit won’t take back what happened and the loss that victims have suffered, but it can be a clear way to send the message that all drivers, including motorcyclists, deserve safety on the roads.
