Pennsylvania woman dies of injuries from motorcycle accident

A woman who was critically injured in a crash last month died a couple days later in a hospital, providing a tragic reminder of the vulnerability of motorcycle drivers and passengers. Weather conditions may be ideal right now for those who like to cruise along the highway on two wheels, but with more motorcyclists on the road, the higher the chances are of serious injuries or death for these motorists.

The motorcycle accident that killed the 48-year-old Bucks County, Pennsylvania, woman happened on May 13 just after 5 p.m. The woman was riding as a passenger on her husband’s motorcycle in Longswamp Township. The couple was headed east when a woman driving westbound lost control of her car, crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with the motorcycle, according to a report from the Pennsylvania State Police.

The woman was thrown from the bike, as was her husband. Although she was flown from the scene to Lehigh Valley Hospital, she died of her injuries a couple days later. Her husband and the 20-year-old driver of the car were also taken to a hospital. The car driver suffered only minor injuries and was quickly released, but the husband remained hospitalized in critical condition.

Both the woman and her husband were wearing helmets and eye protection at the time of the crash, which is still under investigation. Although the car’s driver hasn’t been charged with a crime, the crash victim’s husband could elect to file a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of his wife, or a personal injury lawsuit to cover his own serious injuries. No amount of money can replace his wife, but compensation for the costs of medical, funeral and burial services and lost wages would help him recover financially from such a tragic accident.
